General Authority for Awqaf: Registration of More Than 11,000 Endowments
31/10/2024

As part of its efforts to develop and empower the waqf (endowment) sector, the General Authority for Awqaf announced the registration of more than 11,000 endowments, in addition to providing over 30,000 processing services related to endowment registration for beneficiaries, and issuing more than 9,000 Unified National Numbers (700) as of the third quarter of 2024, through its official website. These efforts aim to preserve and govern awqaf (endowments), facilitate the waqf journey, and align with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which seeks to enhance the effectiveness of the endowment sector in achieving comprehensive and sustainable development. Through the Waqf Registration Service, the Authority seeks to encourage endowers (waqifs) and trustees (nadhirs) and empower them to establish a legal identity for the endowment via the Unified National Number (700). This enables access to digital services and transactions offered by both government and private entities, strengthens the institutional identity of the endowment, and ensures its sustainability and growth to maximize its impact. The service also provides an official Endowment Certificate, safeguarding the rights of the endowment and the endower/trustee, facilitating the process of opening a bank account for the endowment to enable financial transactions, improving the overall waqf experience, and saving time and effort for beneficiaries. These efforts contribute to achieving the objectives for which the endowment was established and ensure compliance with the conditions set by the endowers. The Authority ensures that all registration requirements are fulfilled and compliant with regulations prior to issuing the Endowment Certificate. Obtaining this certificate guarantees an official document that preserves the rights of both the endower and the endowment. It is worth noting that the General Authority for Awqaf launched the electronic Waqf Registration Service in early 2020, with the aim of building a comprehensive database of registered endowments, improving the waqf journey, enhancing service quality, and saving time and effort for beneficiaries. The Authority also reaffirms its commitment to protecting and developing awqaf through a range of digital and technical services. It continues to work toward building a promising future for the endowment sector by strengthening governance, preserving and developing awqaf, and raising awareness through innovative waqf products and services provided to beneficiaries. This contributes to positioning the sector as a leader in sustainable development locally and globally, fulfilling the conditions of endowers, adopting best practices, and establishing regulations and frameworks that support the growth, development, and empowerment of the waqf sector—ultimately maximizing its impact on economic and social development as well as social solidarity.
